The Selection Process

The prospective player must live in the Bellevue High School attendance area. It does not matter if a player’s siblings attend Bellevue High School as an out-of-area attendee. There are no exceptions to this unless the program cannot field an adequate number of players.  Players from outside the Bellevue High School attendance area must be released by their "home" Select program.

See the Bellevue High School attendance area boundary map for details.

Publicity concerning the tryout dates will begin in early September. Vehicles of publicity will vary, but they typically include emails or letters to past participants, both selected and unselected to the program, letters mailed to the girls who played in the Bellevue Girls and Boys club program, as well as roadside signs by the local elementary and middle schools.

There will be two tryout days for each team. It is encouraged that players attend both tryouts. An online registration must be completed before tryouts so that we have contact information for each player.

Players are judged primarily on their attitude toward the game, overall athleticism, court awareness, fundamentals, knowledge of the game and their “coachability” (i.e.: ability to follow directions, listen without disruption and take corrective advice.) Coaches for all grade levels evaluate the players, with the grade level coaches having the final decision making approval. The final team is not just the best 8-12 girls, but the best 8-12 that make up a well-balanced team consisting of some guards, some forwards and some post players.

If a girl is not selected to play for Bellevue Select, they are encouraged to try out for other local high school select teams. The Board will release players to other school programs under these circumstances.

Playing on a Bellevue Select team for one year does not guarantee selection to a Bellevue Select team for the following years.
